Seafood Global Expo / Seafood Processing Global Barcelona 2022

Seafood Show Barcelona 2023

The annual European Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global returned this year after a two-year COVID absence boasting a brand-new venue, Barcelona.

The World’s largest seafood expo was back with a bang, whilst exhibitors stands were noticeably down, largely due to current world affairs. The footfall seemed relatively high.

Here are our 5 key observations from the show.

  1. What was noticeable most was the space between stands allowed people to see exhibitors’ offerings better and reduced the amount of people blocking walkways, a common and frustrating problem back in Brussels.
  2. Easy to use metro – Including a direct service from the airport straight to the show – made it easy to get around, the signage and people on hand to assist where to go was also excellent.
  3. The Seafood processing halls were dominated by impressive stands from the main players, Marel & Baader, as you would expect, with Iceland Seafoods having a huge stand in the seafood hall.
  4. The new location breathed a fresh new life into the show. After 27 years in Brussels the show had got a little stale, the new location managed to put some life back into the industry.
  5. One negative that was mentioned by many was the lack of taxi availability both after the show and in the city centre.

Having spoken with many people during the show, the new location was certainly a big hit, (despite the difficulty getting taxis) and many customers we spoke to who did not exhibit at the show were certainly considering it for next year.

Plast-Equip were also busy at the show working on several projects, with partner Skaginn 3X, including several turn-key pelagic factories, on-board sub-chilling solutions and thawing systems. This combined with new suppliers for insulated containers and plastic fish boxes made the show a huge success.

Next years’ show takes place 25th to 27th April 2023. See you all there!
